Seems people would be more inclined to listen to opposing arguments if there weren't so many insults hurled.

Excellent question.

Sadly, I think most of the folks posting on Yahoo are more interested in insulting the other side than in a true discussion or debate.

In answer to the question, I think it hurts each party more than it helps in that it merely feeds our frustration with the political process today.

Really hurts. People have very strong opinions about politics and tend to be very loyal to their own party, right or wrong. They can't understand how anyone could not "see" their side. So, when the insults and name calling starts, it only confirms in the others mind that they were right...the other side are nothing but a bunch of uneducated, angry, morons.

It depends on the nature of the debate, but generally insulting someone is not a good idea in any situation just because their views of things are different to your own. They may not know anything different and then again you yourself may be wrong and therefore its better to just express your point of view in a structured way and ALWAYS be sure on what your saying, if your not then your the one that looks the fool when your proved wrong and if and when you are admit it, people tend to admire those who admit they were wrong. Hope this helps.

It takes away from the real issues that we need to be discussing. If anyone thinks that both parties do not enjoy our distractions from the corrupt way they ALL are handling our government.

We are kind of stupid for paying so much attention to insulting each other instead of directing that scrutiny on the people that are in office. ALL of them, not just cons or libs. ALL OF THEM need to be more accountable for thier responsibilities to our country.

It's almost impossible to change thoughts. Once someone makes up their mind, that's pretty much it and does not want to be proven wrong. Also not many people are in touch with open mindedness.

It hurts. Especially, if your party happens to be in the wrong.
