No, most Americans recognize that Falwell has a major screw loose. Thankfully, he only appeals to part of our population, and it's a part that the rest of us keep an eye on so they don't get out of hand. Witness the proposed amendment against gay marriage. It came from the overly-puffed up God Will Smite You crowd and it didn't succeed either time. If they couldn't succeed in adding discrimination to the Constitution they aren't going to have much luck with similar agendas either. Most of America looks at people like Falwell with amusement, and sometimes disgust. He's nothing to really worry about in the end, there will always be faux Christians like Falwell to take people's money and preach his version of "morality." None of them have ever managed to affect the US in any truly relevant way.

He does seem to be trying awfully hard. What frightens me is that he has so many followers, even though he's obviously completely insane (and a bit of an idiot). Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups....

No. Jerry Falwell doesn't have much political clout anymore. But, it's interesting to think you would compare us to Iran. Are you afraid of this "Christian nation" becoming more Christian?
