This is how I did it. Hope it works for you.
I made up my mind to STOP! I did by saying "OK, I can chew my thumbnails but none of the others". Eventually, I just stopped biting them all. The paint on stuff did not work for me and got in my food/drinks somehow. But, I think that by "allowing" myself to gnaw on my thumbnails until they were really bad, it gave me the outlet I needed. My nails grew & looked so good, I wanted to stop biting the others.
Now, I just realize how nasty a habit it was and don't bite them at all.

Laura, if you really want and need to quit biting you finger nails or your toe nails, whatever you do, here is what I think you should do, and take this as a suggestion and nothing else: You find a corporation in the yellow or white pages and look under nail biters concept, and you give em a call, and for probably a bundle of money you will go on biting your nails, so, it is best that you find a way to quit biting you nails on your own, and, if you'd like my help, I'll hold your hands back till you get over that dirty obnoxious habit and, then I can go on my way to find another woman who has a nasty and dirty habit you can quit so I can help her so, she, can thank me with some cotton candy, mmmmmm.

Apart from stress and stuff, the main reason for biting nails is the development of sharp bits, loose bits etc on weak nails. I had this problem for years until my daughter came up with Pro Strong 'Pro Accelerator' fluoride nail strengthener.

It comes in small bottles like nail varnish but isn't varnish. You paint it on sparingly every day and as it dries it vanishes, so men can use as well. Don't use it when your hands have just come out of water or when they are about to go into water; last thing before you get into bed is best.

Get a good quality, not necessarily expensive, multi-grade nail board and give your nails a gentle smoothing edge to centre every night to prevent sharp edges from developing, just before applying the Pro Strong.

It is very expensive. QVC sell it but it is occasionally available cheaper from eBay. It says you can cut down to once or twice a week after a while to save usage but ignore this, do it every night so it becomes an absolute habit. If I try to interupt the process I just forget and after a while the nail problems just come back.

Part of the action is simply looking after your nails better but I can leave scratchmarks on wood so I know it's hardening the nails as well as binding the layers of keratin together more strongly.

Hi I cant remember the name but I bought this for my son a few years ago. Go into the chemist and ask for the nail polish that tastes horrible to help you stop biting.

My friend always bites her nails and they used to get REALLY short.. like her thumb nail was half what it was supposed to be. So for her 13th birthday she got fake nails and while she had them on she didn't bite them and she just took them off and now her nails are longer than mine are. And my nails are usually pretty long.

Hello,

(ANS) YES! you can buy a paint on solution from a pharmacy or chemist that tastes horrible. After you have painted it onto your nails if you try biting them the taste is foule, so it works by aversion (aversion therapy). Eventually you might stop biting your nails as a result??

Have mum take you to a manicurist / nail technician, and put on a short set of acrylic nails. The manicurist can (possibly - I don't know about your country) also put on some bitter product to help you stop biting your nails.

You could have gel overlays put on, this protects them from chipping or breaking and makes them hard, so they would be harder to chew. And then you may start to like them looking longer.
Also if you have a system called s-gels it doesn't leave your nails soft when you have gels removed.
You can have the gels done in any colour or in french manicure.
Downsides you have to have infills every 3-4 weeks.

at wal mart they have a clear polish called stop the bite. it helps me the only down fall is it chips off rather quickly so you have to reapply. i am not good at that part. but trust me the first time you go to bite your nails you will think about it the next time you try to. = /~ yuck
