Does the suspended player still get paid during that time or is their pay suspended? How does that work?

This guy Hilltopper is another point gamer. Notice that it's not a yes or no question.

Any way, no, when a player is suspended, it is without pay. True, you'd think that not playing would be enough to upset a player and keep him on the straight and narrow, however, there's no guarantee. Therefore, you've got to hit them where it hurts...the pocket book. Players are not paid during a suspension unless otherwise specified. There have been coaches paid during suspensions in college football, however, they will specify that by calling it "Suspension with pay."

The best way to answer your question is to take a look at a real life example. Melky Cabrera was suspended last season for 50 games due to a PED violation. His contract called for him to make $6 million for 2012. Cabrera's paycheck was reduced by 50/162 (games suspended divided by games in the season. In other words, his infraction cost Melky approximately $1.85 million. That's how much the Giants didn't have to pay him.

They are not supposed to get paid, but no one knows what the owner and player have agree too behind closed doors, many owners will do anything to keep the player happy, even brake their own team rules

I'm pretty sure they don't get paid because they violated the league's drug policy and I'm pretty sure that policy is suspended without pay
