I've done this for a few months without a problem, but someone told me this could crack the windscreen. What do people think?

No,

Glass has a poor heat transfer coefficient. This means that the heat does not travel quickly through the glass.

When you poor hot water on the windscreen, the outside surface will heat up quickly and expand, but the inside will still be very cold and won't expand.

This causes stress in the windscreen, which is what makes it crack. Expensive.

Foe a cheap option, mix up some lukewarm water with some salt in it and use this.

Hi

Only use LUKE WARM WATER and make sure your wipers are switched on whilst you're pouring it to reduce the risk of re-freezing, but don't stand at the side of the windscreen or you'll get a tadge wet!!

You should really get some de-icer, its a much better option.

Cheers

if you pour it directly over then you could crack the window.what i do and have done for years is to fill a bowl of warm water then use a towel soak it in the water and then wash the window.always try it first on the small back window or even the wing mirror so if it does crack then it is not to expensive to replace.touch wood i have never cracked a window yet.

I've used warm water for ages too, without a problem. I used to scrape it with a credit card and ended up scratching the window. Warm water is much quicker & easier, and I don't see why it should be a problem so long as you're careful it's not too hot, and you drive off before it re-freezes!

Yes it could very well crack your windscreen, not advisable. Get a de-icing spray.

No - when hot water hits freezing cold glass, the extremes of temperature can crack it. Use lukewarm water or an ice scraper.
