When a character gets hit in a marvel or DC comic, a frame apprears that says "pow" or "blam" or "boom" inside of a starburst. I am looking for the name of the frame itself. What is that frame called? A burst? A blast?

if by frame you mean the little enclosed are where just the words or action phrase is then although action bubble, word bubble are used..... it is actually referred to in the industry as ballons; word and action ballons

if you mean frame as in the whole picture on each page? it is a panel..... on pages that have only one "scene" or picture? it is refered to as a splash page but I do not remember hearing a different term for panels or pages that have action/words and ones that do not... so I am assuming you meant the ballons...

The things you describe are called "effects" or "SFX". These days, comics hardly ever use the "POW" "BIFF" "BOOM" stuff that was in the Batman TV show. The effects are usually used to denote noises...also, they almost never, ever use the effects inside a starburst like that anymore

I think it’s called an ‘action scene’. Nearly everything in the comics is an action scene, whether the hero is flying or running somewhere, or using his powers, or fighting. Non action scenes woul dbe standing there talking, even arguing. Or in the secret identity.
