Im talking about that little pillowy horseshoe shaped thing that you use for a newborn. My baby is 4 weeks old...is she old enough not to need it anymore?

I stopped using it when my daughter was about 4 weeks old. They really serve no purpose. It's supposed to keep the baby's head from slumping over and/or to the side. My daughter's head still always slumped over. Also, don't worry about neck cramps. I've read that baby's neck muscles and bones are still soft enough that they don't get cramps. Also, most people aren't in the car that long with a tiny baby anyways. So if it seems like it's not really serving any purpose, then go ahead and take it out.

These head supports are designed to keep baby's head from falling to the side when they fall asleep or before they can hold their heads up by themselves. I recommend using the head support until they can completely control their head and neck themselves and are big enough that they don't slump over when asleep. The bad thing about using a blanket is that it can become dislodged and can potentially cover the baby's face if they are squirming around too much. The head supports are made to attach under the baby and through the straps of the seat to prevent it from moving where it isn't needed or wanted.

They normally start holding their own head anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks so that would probably be a great time.

4 weeks is probably too early to remove it. I would wait a while - make sure her head is staying upright before removing it. It isn't a bad idea for when she falls asleep to keep it in the carseat since her head probably flops to the side at that time.

I kept mine until my son was about eight weeks. It mostly just got in the way and never stayed in place. After eight weeks he could support his head well. When he'd fall asleep, I just put a blanket next to his head as a pillow so his neck was not strained.

No. Use it until she's old enough to hold her head up and have control of it on her own. You don't want your little one to be slumped over getting neck cramps while you're driving.

No, you have to use it until your baby can hold his head. My son will be 5 month old in a week and I just stopped using it last week.

Ithink that you should leave it in as long as you feel that your baby is still safe, But, I think that I took both of my children's out about 6or7 months, that way that they can hold there head up pretty good by themselves.
