Even though this woman is close to the boss, your boss should still be able to act professionally. So I would take your grievance to your boss. Try not to be emotional about it, just state the facts and tell the boss how you feel by the way you are being treated.
As long as you've been employed for two years working more than 16 hours a week...your boss cannot fire you (UK here), I don't think your boss would anyway...it must be part of the job description that the boss has to sort out personnel matters.
The longer you hold off, the worse you will feel. Spend some time at home, writing out what your grievances are and rehearse stating them in a cool way.
Don't use words like, 'I'm sorry...but...' or 'I know you're friendly with her' simply stick to the basics of what you want to communicate. Try not to get upset or angry, this will not help you.
You'll be so glad you said something. Even if they are mates, the boss will still say something like, go easy on....so and so.
If after this, you feel you are being victimised for reporting, then you should report again, 'cos that's not on either. People can really make your life at work a misery....IF YOU LET THEM...handle this in a professional way, then you can stop her.

I have recently been in a similar situation and actually resigned in the end because I could not bear to keep putting myself through the stress for a job that I didnt even like.
Dont talk to your line manager's boss as he or she probably will not be helpful if they are close to your line manager. Speak to HR about this as I think that they need to be made aware of the situation. If you do not feel ready to do this and you are feeling very depressed go to the doctors and it is likely that they may put you off work for a while. This will give you some time to relax and decide what it is you really want to do and, if you so wish, look and apply for a new job. In doing this HR will have a copy of your medical certificate and you could use this as an opportunity to make them aware of the situation. If possible, you may even be able to transfer to another store.
If you have the strength to do so then just rise above it. Dont let them see that he/she is getting to you. Massage her/his ego and just agree with everything they say. People who bully others, make them sad or depressed clearly have low self-esteem and, it is quite likely that this person is jealous of or threatened by you. Usually they themselves feel like crap, are stressed or feel that they can do their job well and take it out on those who are a direct threat to them or have something that they want.
But if this is really getting to you then the best thing to do is resign with your dignity in tact. No job is worth making yourself sad and depressed.
I am a great believer in karma: what goes around comes back around, usaully twice as hard.
Look out for yourself and do what is best for you and your career.

With the assumption that you are a good employee...You need to let her know that she is not being a very good team leader by treating you that way and that if it doesn't change you'll have to quit and report her. Don't take that **** from anyone, especially not a boss!!! There are so many different and interesting retail stores that are always hiring.

document all the times when you felt you were being treated like this
if you have tried to sort it out with your manager and then their manager - i would consider speaking to a union rep about going to a tribunal
you are right not to put up with it
keep your head high - you deserve better and you can feel quite smug that you sound a much better person than both of them put together

I so understand that it is so stressful takes the wind right out of ya,Call human rights they can help. It will be in the phone book , I have been there and i hate hearing about anyone dealing with this.

get a new job, i had the same problem, it made me ill, there are so many retail jobs its untrue. then tell her you quit, i felt like i was on cloud nine when i left
i know when your down at work its hard to get motivated tog o job hunting but it will be worth it
