This link above lists the total US hurricanes starting in 1881- Present. There is ABSOLUTELY no correlation between this data and global "climate change." Global temperatures are "increasing" and yet the hurricane frequency seems to be random at best.

For instance between 1881- 1890 there were 10 MAJOR (category 3,4,5) hurricanes, while 2001-2004 saw only 3.

So how can hurricanes be increasing due to global warming if neither hurricane frequency nor hurricane power are increasing?

Are the global warming alarmists lying to us?

Crabby_blindguy: I wasn't aware that the "National Weather Service" was junk science from the "oil companies"...indeed you must be much smarter than ALL of us to see such a hidden connection.

As requested: here's a link from www.fight globalwarming.org that says hurricanes are getting fiercer because of global warming http://www.fightglobalwarming.org/page.cfm?tagID=245.

You got it.
They can't predict the weather next week but they are 100% sure of what is going to happen in 100 years with out a single doubt in their minds.

If anyone questions them they are to lose their jobs or take away their degrees all in the name of global warming.

There are many other factors that are involved in the weather such as el Nino. The main thing is that the oceans are getting warmer. Warmer oceans help give rise to more storms and the heat pumps energy into the storms. You cannot take one single factor and use it as an argument against global warming. Global warming can even cause a mini ice age and the Gulf stream waters get cooled by melting ice and stops the conveyor that keeps the circulation flowing. It would be nice if people looked into the whole story and not just take the word of folks that have their own agenda.

Because the paattern is a long term trend--with individual variations from year to year. In any given year, specific conditions will cause variations. For example, the el nino shifted much of the hurricane activity in the Atlantic to the Pacific last year.

Which you would know if you were following real science instead of the junk science put out by the oil companies.

You are preaching to the choir here. Global warming is cyclical and natural. It happens every 1000 years or so. Mars is also warming. This would tend to show that the cause is solar, not man made, as some politically motivated people would have you believe. The same people were screaming about global COOLING 30 years ago.

For all those out there who think I'm an idiot, check with a scientist that actually studies things like this, like a climatologist. Most will tell you that global warming is natural, and there is nothing that man can do to influence it either way.

Finally, a person who posts a question questioning science and backs it up with a real link and real observations.

To some people, there is still question about global warming. If you look back geologically you will find instances where the earth either warmed up or cooled down quickly for a period of time. History can show the same as well.

I personally do not know yet. I have not studied this area of science yet so I cannot really give you much information about it. I am just happy to see someone with something to back up their question. A National Oceanic and Atmospheric site no less.

well... there are several possibilities... the overall temps have clearly increased, but not by a lot...

probably not enough to affect hurricanes...

but if it continues... then it could...

this is an issue where it's real effects will be shown over centuries into the future... not decades, which is all your chart really deals with...

this is exactly the problem with global science... we can't prove or disprove it, because we don't have enough data from far enough back to get an accurate measure on anything...

so... frankly... it could all be just normal... or it could be caused by man... we don't know... and there is no way for us to prove or disprove either one...

the only problem is... by the time we can prove or disprove it... it could be too late...

The 3 hurricanes that you mentioned were only in the U.S. try to think with a more worldly observance. Think about the storms we had in the past two years. Some of the most deadly and destructive that we have seen in a long time. Just recently Denver was hit with two major blizzards, California's citrus crop was destroyed. Temps in Detroit reached 47 below. Hurricane Katrina. Tornadoes rip apart Florida.
Global warming doesn't cause more hurricanes. It causes higher highs and lower lows, increased storm strength, and less periodic rainfall. (More heavier amounts of rain fall in one place, than lighter rain falling on a larger radius).

because global warming is a political myth. It is thrown up because most people are idiots and do not know how to draw there own conclusions through research and facts they would rather listen to someone who is supposed to know what they are talking about.
America is weak minded by nature and so that will be the death of the ONCE great nation

Yes, Thousands of highly educated PHD's are lying to you.

think in planetary time, not just the last couple hundred years.

Scientists have been taking ice samples from the antarctic for years and compiling models based on data from the atmospheric conditions from millions of years ago on up to the present.

Global warming is real, and we are all in for a huge wake up call.

Of course they are, though you would think it would be the Republicans seeing as how we tend to try to scare everyone. Ain't that somethin"? After all, this can't be natural, it's got to be Bush's fault; isn't everything? Thousand of prominent scientists say this is natural, but liberals know better. (Good to have you back.)
