I just bought a brand new car two days ago and there are scratches on the hood. I noticed them before I bought it and mentioned it to the dealer. He took notice and said that he will have it buffed out. I go in saturday to get this done... but I didnt know you can buff a scratch out... can it really be fixed?

It can be done with the right stuff. It usually takes 10 Min's. to 30 Min's. depending on how bad the scratches are. I do this stuff in my drive way.

I've detailed for about 10 yrs. You need a high speed buffer and some compound. If they're bad, 3M heavy cut compound will do it (and you'll need to follow up w/ a lighter compound and wax). If they're not that bad, a light compound. If they're really bad, wetsanding and then buffing. Anything not down to the bare metal can be repaired w/ these methods. Problem is, you'll have to find a competent detailer.

A good quality paste rubbing compund will do light scratches, but be sure to reapply wax to the area

IF THEY ARE SURFACE SCRATCHES THEY CAN BE REMOVED WITH A GOOD COMPOUND. BUT DEEPER SCRATCHES CANT BE BUFFED OUT AND WILL ONLY BE COVERED WITH A TOUCH UP PAINT.

Yes. These days you can get coloured waxes that will cover and mask a scratch.
