we have a 3 yr. old propane furnace that makes a popping noise before it starts to run. We have to go clean out the intake pipe when the temps get below - 0. other than that it works fine

There are a few things that could cause a pop noise. The first thing is the duct could pop. This is sometimes caused by a dirty filter or a thin piece of duct that expands when the blower kicks on. The second could be low gas pressure, dirty burners, dirty pilot runner to light the burners. It could also be a lack of combustion air if it is a sealed combustion which has to do with your intake pipe. If it is not the duct popping I would recommend a service technician because the pop you are probably hearing is caused by a build up of unburned gas. Good Luck.

YOu have a combustion problem. The propane is flowing into the furnice and it is not lighting soon enought causing the cas to have a mini-explosion. get it fixed before you have a big explosion
