It has to be the '72 Dolphins. They are the only team to ever go undefeated for the entire season. You have to go with a consistent team like that. To go in week after week with pressure to stay undefeated, you have to be the best. Like the '85 Bears lost and then all eyes weren't on them anymore because they weren't undefeated anymore. So that relieved the pressure. So I have to say the '72 are the ultimate team.

Win/loss record does'nt mean a whole lot considering some years and eras are just stronger then others. Honestly, could the Colts of this year have beaten the Cowboys of the 90's or the Steelers of the 70's or even the Patriots a couple of years ago? the answer is NO! That being said I think the best team ever was probably the 1989 49ers-they had everything-great QB, great WR's, great RB, solid role players, great defense, with the greatest coach and if it came down to the fourth quarter they would always have the advantage with Montana. The team was so good Steve Young one of the greatest QB's ever was a backup.

85 Bears. The Bears did lose one game, but they played 5 more games than the 72 Dolphins did. The 85 Bears had the greatest defense of all time, a fantastic QB, the best running back of all time, and the Super Bowl Shuffle.

Hard to argue with the '72 'Phins, but gimme a break with the '99 Rams. The Titans would have beaten them out of the playoffs if Justin McCairens' arm had been 4 inches longer.
No one has mentioned any of those old Dallas, Pittsburgh or Washington teams! All had better quarterbacks than the '85 bears (though maybe not as cock-sure of themselves).

The 1978 Pittsburgh Steelers. Best team in history. They'd destroy the 1985 Bears. The Steelers offense was much better and their defense was just as good if not better than the 85 bears.
Name all the HOF players from that 1985 Bears team, then name all the 1978 Steelers in the HOF. The 1978 Steelers are the best

I'll only hear arguments from the '72 Dolphins, '85 Bears, or the '89 Niners...
I'm partial to the '89 Niners....think about it...they were so stacked...they had a future hall of famer, Steve Young, as their BACKUP

'84 49ers. Dolphins had a very easy schedule, and the 49ers were the most balanced of the 4 15-1 teams (they had near top offense and deffense ---while Steelers and Bears were D, and Vikings were O)
They were a great team, and that was even w/o Jerry Rice (he isn't the whole team, but he made a big impact on the team once they got him).

I would go with the Dolphins, but not '85, (that would be the Bear's year) I would go with the undefeated '72 Dolphins.

1972 Dolphins would be the first team that came to mind. Undefeated season and post season.
1985 Bears would probably be my second choice.
