Well sweety, I could have answered your question sooner but you spelled his damn name wrong in your question so everyone that knows how to spell was thrown off the track right from the start.

Now for the answer:

1. Dr. Woodson believed that blacks, as a people, don't really know much about their own past. He stated that must because someone is born black doesn't mean they have some innate knowledge of black history--any more than being born white makes you automatically a scholar when it comes to white history.

2. He said that if blacks understood their own history they would be much more politically motivated. This is demonstrated today. Very few black Americans graduate high school--less than 30%, and as a result virtually no blacks (to speak of) turn out to vote in elections. I believe in the election of 2004 the black voter turn-out was around 14% nationwide. Therefore, we often hear blacks complaining about politics, racism, the economy and how bad society is, yet when given the opportunity to change things, they opt to sit at home and do nothing. Dr. Woodson certainly knew his own people didn't he?
