Because they're nosy, can't mind their own damn business and got no lives of their own. They've also got their own self righteous misguided values.

In the 1960's the white house office of Telecommunications Policy proposed installing warning systems in all telvisions to warn in case of diaster. What they wanted to do is spy on people. That way, they can watch you without you knowing they are watching.
