I have been running Vista for two weeks now (Business on my desktop and Ultimate on my laptop). What do you mean by "flattening" the hard drive?

Not got vista yet (waiting for upgrade dvd from dell) and I'd advise against flattening the hard drive, in general they are as flat as they can be

I strongly recommend not buying Vista. Right now it has absolutely no significant advantages over Windows XP. It is slower, uses at least 650MB of RAM (XP uses about 190), and is incompatible with many common programs without some tweaking. It is almost completely incompatible with older programs from smaller companies.

I assume the question your asking is "Is it best to Format the hard drive. I would say yes. I always recommend formatting before installing a new OS.
