most women do not get their period until after they slow the breastfeeding. i didn't get my period back until i was completely done. it was great. i'm sure it's just the breasfeeding and that you just had your son. you should call your doc to be sure though. good luck.
"Breastfeeding, however, suppresses menstruation at least for a while. For some mothers, there may be an absence of menstruation for weeks, months, and even years while still breastfeeding. Some mothers will even need to completely wean before they see their first period. Others, once their babies begin taking supplemental foods or sleeping longer periods at night, will see the first period. Once menstruation returns it may continue to be irregular during lactation. It's not uncommon to have a shorter or longer than normal period while breastfeeding. It's also not abnormal to skip a period or see the first period return and then find that months pass before the next one." <<< a breastfeeding website

If you are breastfeeding, your periods will still be messed up for a while. They might come every month or they might now.
I wouldn't expect your period to be here until around yesterday or today, and if you're using protection (I'm assuming barrier protection is what you mean?) then it's unlikely that you are unless you know something you're not sharing here.
You might consider asking your doctor about the mini-pill. It's a progresterone-only pill that does not affect your milk supply. It's only 95 percent effective (versus 99 for regular birth control) but can help provide that extra layer of protection.

Breast feeding plays a BIG role in the return of your period. While I was breast feeding, my period never came.
After a pregnancy and especially if you are still breastfeeding your hormones are still imbalanced. And your period may fluctuate in arrival time, how much, etc.
Don't stress it, you're only a couple of days off. Wait a couple weeks before checking. Mine came for 2 days very light in January, I was not very consistant with protection. Boy was I scared, and this month it came for 5 days which is longer than normal.

Hormones could be doing it, but my sister had only 1 period after she had her son and got pregnant again at 11 months with her new son. I would say if you are worried take the test. Good Luck

It definitely could be due to hormones ... since you are breastfeeding, you are probably eating just fine, although if you aren't, malnutrition can cause shorter periods (I just went through this myself). I'd wait and see what happens this month. If you have another short period, I'd suggest calling your ob/gyn to rule out any other conditions. Good luck! :)

Don't stress yourself out. Take a test for peace of mind, but remember, if you're breastfeeding your cycles are likely to be out of sorts. Best of luck.

It is more than likely hormones that is messing with your period but to be on the safe side take a test. You are probably not pregnant though.
