(the people I know personally aren't much help so I thought I'd ask you guys) I'll graduate with a degree in English (Literature) in May of 2008. I can't decide what I want to do. I've thought about a lawyer but don't really want to have that much more school. I've thought about a teacher (public or private) but I'm not an education major so it would take another year in any state to become certified and then not make much $ anyway. If anyone knows of some writing jobs that I may not have thought of that would be great too! or something related to the internet maybe-I'm not sure how that stuff works. I could be an asst. Editor. I could also work for a non-profit organization which I would like, but I might get bored with just an office job (at least one not directly related to literature). What do you think about any of these? What are some other ideas? How should I choose? Any other anecdotes you wanna throw in there are fine too.

Oh, & I could get my master's but I'd have to work while I was getting it and being realistic here I'd probably quit school & work full time b/c of finances, etc. but it's an option I guess

Freelance writing for magazines. I had a friend make a lot of money since she got paid per word.
You can apply for a position at your local community college to be a TA for an English professor, become a screen writer, or have a "whatever" job and work on your own things and submit them to different publishers.
Good luck!

There are many things you could do but it all depends on what you personally enjoy and would be willing/happy to do. You could apply at a PR agency and write speeches & press releases. You could write copy at an ad agency. You could be a marketing coordinator and do PR/marketing writing for a company. You could look for something in journalism or be a book critic. Those are just a start.

The best thing to do is go talk to your counselor since that's part of why they are there. He or she can help you find something that suits you well. There's also a test you can take that shows where your strengths and interests are and then it suggests various careers. Your counselor would probably know where you could take it or get more info on it. He/she might even have some career books that you could look at or you could find some in the library.

Good luck.

Only you can decide what you will enjoy doing. It sounds like you are completely up in the air, but you want to use your degree to help you get more money.

Take a look at the article in the middle of this page. There is a reference to the book "The Powermind System" which has a great self-analysis tool useful for choosing ideal careers.
