I had demural with my first pregnancy and I did not like the side effects so I am considering having an epidural with my second pregnancy and I wanted to know any information that could be helpful in making that decision good or bad?

I had a spinal with my first child, and an epidural with the 2nd..
I didn't like the epidural AT ALL!!!!
I didn't know what to expect, and when the doctor came to put it in... he came in, with the nurses - wearing what looked like a plastic welder's mask on his face.. I got really scared.

I had c-sections both times.. and I had the epidural in for 3 days.. when they took it out, I crashed.. and I felt HORRIBLE for the next two days.. the medicine it was injecting the whole time gave me a false sense that I was feeling ok.

What kind of side effects did you have? When I had a spinal, I got really itchy afterwards.. like I had ants crawling on me.. but the nurses gave me benedryl, and I felt better.

Good luck to you!

as you know, the pain is too much to be borne. instead of crying for full nights and then accepting epidural, you can relax by having it in the initial stage itself and then sleep well. in that way you will be prepared to 'push' the baby. based on my personal experience, i would suggest this is good. ofcourse not sure about the demural. i didnt have any side effect so far (4 months by now) but some have lighter back pains. good luck!

I usually get a thumbs down for this but maybe you can try it naturally? Be it your second pregnancy it usually gets easier and goes by faster.

With epidurals you cannot move around, get into a shower or anything. You are stuck in the bed

Epidurals are fine but many women see it as there only option. They have side effects but as long as the doctor is good you should be fine. I have a friend who has permanent numbness in her back because they did it wrong

I had an epidural with my first one and has a horrible experience. I was so numb that I had to have oxygen to breathe and then when I was released from the hospital I had bad headaches for a month. My mom had to take care of my newborn. I still have back problems today. I can't lift much and can't bend over for more then 2 mins. But it also depends on the person. My second one I had natural and I got to enjoy her more.

Well, you can't move from bed once you are hooked up and the needle is inserted near your spine, which is freaky. Other than that, though, I had no problems with the epidural. The effects wore off a couple of hours after I gave birth and I was able to walk around.

you dont need an epidural...if you do some research about the harmful effects of an epidural on both you AND your baby, you will see that its not a good plan. You and your baby were both designed to give birth without drugs. Personally, and all you people who say this is child abuse and stupid...(do some research on it) i think having a baby without any medical help is best and safest, its called an unassisted birth....Amazing! Thats how i plan on having my children...born into the world gently and comfortably. You have to trust your body and your baby, it knows what its doing and you dont need drugs to help you. Ps) pain comes from fear, if you believe in your body and dont fear it, youll have alot less pain..maybe even an orgasm...yup i sound crazy but its the truth i tells ya!

I had an epidural because they did an emergency c-section after being in labor for three days.

I didn't like it at all. Maybe the guy I had just wasn't good at administering it, but it hurt the whole time he was putting it in. Then I was already sitting but the nurse caught me from falling off the bed because I get panicky in situations like that and my blood pressure bottoms out.

I will never forget the sound of it grinding into my back. It sounded like he was crushing my bones.

I am not trying to scare you, but it is something to consider and you should hear the good and bad stories.

I had 4 children all natural.
Personally I did not like the idea of the epidural.

My wife had an epidural with our daugter and it numbed her legs to the point that she couldn't feel them, but did nothing to dampen the pain of her hips spreading and the baby descending. She was in severe pain and to top it off, the epidural made her vomit as soon as it was administered and she had the epidural and a second bolus of the medicine.

I haven't had personal experience but my mom had epidurals with all three of us. The only negative thing that she has issues with still is horrible back pains. I would talk to your doctor talk about the pros and cons or if you are in any birthing classes ask the other mothers because they may be more honest than doctors about negativity.
