The biggest thing the next one should learn is that you must listen to advisers; they are called advisers for a reason, they advise. Bush has completely ignored everyone that didn't agree with him, and has fired those among his staff who didn't agree with him (like Colin Powell).

It should be obvious by now that those people were right. We should not have stepped into this war, and Bush certainly should not have lied to convince us to do so. These tax cuts wouldn't be so bad (in fact, would be quite welcome), if he also wasn't spending money like this war is alcohol and he is 25 all over again and not taking that much money in. Or if he got if from the people who had the money (the large business owners) rather than the poor and destitute.

The next one should also realize how far people will take the idea of scapegoating. Bush's economy is in a mess still; granted there are jobs being created but they are all jobs like janitor and McDonald's cashier, not decent jobs that can be used to support a family. This process can be traced back to his ideas about trickle down economics (give money to businesses and they will use it to make more jobs). Sounds good, but what really happens is that the businesses just hold onto the money as much as possible, which has nearly frozen the economic growth. Money is the lifeblood of the economy, and the businesses have stopped the flow.

Bush tried to place blame elsewhere, and he went with illegal immigration. Unfortunately, that has blown up fairly badly in his face. Our economy depends heavily on illegal immigrants to keep prices low while still infusing money into the system as the illegals pay it to Americans to provide them with food, clothes, and shelter. But Bush put the blame on them thinking he'd have a cover for his foolishness, and that Americans wouldn't care that much about the subject. He assumed they'd do what they always do, which is to spend a couple of weeks yelling about the problem and then forget it.

But the Conservative nutjobs in media (not all conservatives are nutjobs, but it appears to be a requirement for them to get on TV) like Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly and Glen Beck, had something to use and they ran with it. Now they are about to try to run the conservatives even further into the ground and Bush seems unable to stop them. Believing that they are helping the cause of conservatism, TV conservative nutjobs are about to destroy America.

Hopefully they will fail. But the next GOP presidential candidate needs to learn to be careful about what he/she says (alright, lets face it, he--only the Democrats have it in them to run a female candidate).

Don't marginalize the media. Bush was always aloof around the media but when he slammed the door on the media for following his daughters around they retaliated.

Besides the economy under his stewardship Bush's other legacy will be how a President handles the media.

Don't be afraid to be dumb. But then seek out those wiser than you. Like Colin Powell. And listen to them.

And don't "pimp" your faith for votes.

But do buy a fake ranch to impress the redstate hayseeds..
This worked for Reagan also.
