I'm having barracuda,around me,daily.
I'm teaching diving in Caribbean.

-Usally,only a big one(1,50-1,80 meter),dwells in a reef,as "his own territory".

Occasionally,on ship wrecks, they can be more(10-15-20),due to the schools of fish that they like to stay around the wreck, and the increasing possibilities to feed. Thus:no concurrence in feeding.

-They can be scarying you, because, often, they can come close and "grinning" ,(To confirm that that territory belongs to them..).
-Usually they are not dangerours , but, if you are feedind fish they could appear in the scene as lightnings, and accidents could occur.

-In murky water, some documented accidents happened with barracuda.
Probably because they confused(due to the bad visibility) glittering things on snorkelers,or divers(Medals, gold chains, rings, etc),as they were wounded fish...moving weird .
They are predators, therefore, ready to stike at each moment...

_In normal situations : they follow the group of divers,at the limit of the visibility.I assume, hoping that a fish escapes from where the divers are,in the direction of the barracuda.("Easy hunting").
If you need more information, just, contact me.

Yes we have barracuda all the time. I work on a dive vessel in the Gulf of Mexico. We see them from the surface down to about 300 feet typically. They tend to congregate directly in the shade of the boat during the day. They also like to circle the diver, I am guessing they are attracted to his hat light. They also like shiny items like buckles, knives, etc. We have never had one attack any one before though.

I work at an aquarium so yes I have. They are in the Caribbean reef tank and are probably about 3 or 4 feet. They're pretty fast for short distances because their body is streamlined.

Yes, once I went to Sea World, and took a picture of some there. Also, my swim is called the "Bardstown Barracudas"! That's why I took a picture...
