I have a child, and due to her schooling hours and the size of this town I wanted to work from home too, I LOOKED EVERYWHERE, literally, I asked people on here a hundred questions like you and everything came back as a survey, cost too much money to make money, and was really messy (eg:had to set up 10 eamil address in order to receive the work because of the spam threat) yuk.
It is an international domain name company using .ws rather than .com or .org etc... NO SURVEYS NO SELLING NO MYSTERY SHOPPING NO MARKETING NO START UP COSTS NO messiness.
When I found this, it exceeded every expectation and more. It is free to sign up, it doesnt involve selling anything, you help others as your helping yourself. If you make a hundred dollars a month on your first month, (a thousand if you have the time to dedicate... even more, there is NO LIMIT, I met a lady who is earning 5 digits a month, and another making 6 digits) That will basically be your base line, every month you will keep getting that same amount of pay, all you can do is make it better. If you've been going to "work at home" sites, I can understand why
you're not happy! Many of them come across as somewhat unsavory.
Fairly or not, in general, "work at home" is associated with, if not
downright scams, at least broken promises, low pay, and
disappointment.
Your best bet is to go through very respected sites, like Monster,
even though you will have to commit a lot of time to hunting and
weeding.
There is a website that does this already and they post daily telecommute jobs. The jobs where you must send them a resume and interview for them, and some of them have benefits.
Many of them are sales or web programming jobs, but there are some for customer service and clerical type work.

I know a lot of stay home mom's that squeak out a living selling things on ebay...
They hit thrift stores and garage sales during the day.. and put their finds up for auction..
Either that, or see if you can watch someone else's little one.. That should earn you an easy $200 a week, at least!
