After hearing and reading many people call the Montreal Canadiens the Habs, I need to have my curiosity fulfilled. What does "Habs" mean/represent and why are the Canadiens also called Habs?

Habitants is the name used to refer to both the French settlers and the America-born inhabitants of French origin who farmed the land along the two shores of the St. Lawrence waterway in what is the present-day Province of Quebec in Canada.

It's a common myth that the "H" stands for "habitants". It began in 1924 when Madison Square Garden owner Tex Rickard was falsely told by someone that the "H" stood for "habitant".

But the nickname stuck and the Canadiens have since been known as Les Habitants.

The logo is an amalgamation of "Le Club de Hockey Canadien".

There are actually two C's in the logo, one on top of the other. One stands for "Club", the other for "Canadien".

It stands for Habnots.
They are called that because they hab not won since they foolishly let Patrick Roy leave.
Also because they will have hab a hard time beating my Leafs.
