Ok, this is kinda related to my first question as well. I have taken care of most of my start up problems, but it is still slow, from signing in, til I get online. Now, my start up items, how do I know what I need and don't? They are a bunch of letters thrown togther that look foreign to me and I don't know if I require it to start up or not? Or it is if you don't know what it is, you probably don't need it checked? Is there a site that can identify what these things are in my start up? I have checked very few to start but what if there is more? Thank you for any help! I appreciate it a great deal.

It is hard to discern the identity of a startup program just from its name. There are a number of resources online which can give you a description for them. My favorite is Castlecops startup list. They maintain a database of thousands of startup programs. You just type in the name of the program you are interested in and it will display a description of the program, the software developer and tell you if the program is malicious or not. Here is the link: http://www.castlecops.com/modules.php?name=StartupList

Programs marked "Y" should run at startup, "N" are non essential programs...[you can find out what the other symbols mean by reading the guide].

If you use the windows defender (it's a free tool from Microsoft) start-up program shows a base directory. From this directory you can know eg. c:\program files\messenger\mXXX.exe may be something to do with messenger. This helps most of time and there is a link to website link for more information. There will be other programs from same directory that will depend on this start-up file. If you use the program heavily keep it or you can always load it when you want.
