You probably have to enable it in the video BIOS. Every video BIOS is different, it seems... you may have to search around a bit to find your settings.

Check your display settings to see if there is a special setting somewhere.

Right-click your desktop, and see if there is another choice that opens your configuration control panel. Sometimes the controls can be accessed from the display properties settings, sometimes not.

Hover your mouse pointer over each icon in the system tray (the icons next to the clock on your task bar) and wait for a balloon to tell you what it is... one of them may be your video settings. Make sure you extend the system tray if it is collapsed to see the hidden icons. If one of them says anything about "video", right-click it or double-click it and see if you can find the configuration panel.

Once you find your configuration panel, make sure that the s-video is enabled (it might just be called video). You might also need to turn on hardware acceleration for the video output.

Note: the function key combo that the people above suggested will probably not solve your problem, but you might as well give it a try. Note that the combo depends on the manufacturer... look at the function keys and find the one that has a small icon of two monitors side-by-side; that will usually be the right one. You will probably have to hold the Fn key (located near the Ctrl, Alt, and Win keys) and press the function key. However, I have never found an instance where that hotkey was used to enable the s-video... usually, it is used to enable/disable the regular RGB output (the socket used to connect to an external monitor or LCD projector).

You should be able to press fn F5 to get the signal out the s-video. Also, make sure that your TV is on first.

You may need to check to see if your s-video signal is PAL or NTSC, depending on where you live.

Almost all computers and laptops that have a video out connector will show that connector in the Display properties in Windows. Just activate it and set the second display as TV.

Assuming that you have connected your laptop to the TV, make sure that you select the right input mode on the TV (AV1, AV2 etc if connection via SCART; RGB if connecting via the red/white/yellow sockets on the front or side of your TV).

There is usually a function button that controls your output on your laptop. Hook up your cable, and press the Function (Fn) button, and then look for one of your buttons that has a symbol above it that looks like a monitor screen.

You might need to press it a few times.

You have to use the video adapter software that came with the computer to switch over to video output mode..

The thing in display properties is for a VGA or DVI out and Svideo is far from that, so discard what this guy said above me..

yes, there is a function button that you have to push, sometimes it is a combo of two buttons. check the F2- F12 buttons above the numbers.
