Agreed.
My fiance and I decided to celebrate any other day but then. For instance, this year we're going to celebrate Thursday.
I DON'T mean that we're celebrating Valentine's Day on Thursday, I mean we are celebrating Thursday itself.
We're an odd couple, but it'd be hypocritical to celebrate a calender holiday based on the morals we believe in.
And yes, the fact that they would do something for you on an occasion that they aren't REQUIRED to is much more thoughtful and impressing than days like Valentine's Day and (wtf is this?) Sweetest Day.
Sweetest Day is the lamest excuse for corporations to make money, and America just feeds right off the bull.
Agreed.

Well we all know the history of Valentine's Day is rooted in commercialism by greeting card companies BUT... I think it's cool there is ONE day, much like mother's day or Father's day that is set aside to acknowledge... LOVE in general. I find the day touchy, receiving a silly paper heart from a grand child or a diamond necklace from the love in my life. I enjoy in particular being goofy and sentimental on that day and just acknowlodging friends I don't get to spend a lot of time with in my busy day to days with a "Be My Valentine" rememberance.
Try not to put so much into the "day" but more into the thought. Just because WE don't particularly care for the traditionalism of the day... we could certainly put smiles on others faces by remembering the day. Hearts, Flowers, and Fun to you.

Yes I agree. My husband knows this also and does not feel pressured to do anything special on this particular day. Yet he is kind, loving and generous all the time. I absolutely LOVE getting flowers or small gifts throughout the year "just because". I feel sorry also for the women who must wait for a holiday to pressure their men into doing something special for them.

It is a Catholic feast day to commemorate St. Valentine. One purported reason St. Valentine was killed is for uniting a Pagan women and Christian man in marriage. Therefore, I disagree, I think the holiday is about love. Especially love transcending religion.
No, I do not feel sorry for these men. They should do what they feel is necessary there is no law that says they have to do what you described. They do it if they want to.

I agree with you.
They struggle trying to pick out a gift, and if its just plain flowers it doesn't seem sincere.
Any other day of the year flowers are romantic and exciting, but for some reason they lose their romance to me on Valentine's Day.

I like to surprize my girl all through out the year, just because, not because it's some profit enhancing holiday made up by greeting card companies and retail stores. We usualy just celebrate our birthdays, and forget about the big expenses on christmas, etc. If we want to treat each other, we do it cause we want to or need to, not to make stores richer.

I'm with you. I'd rather get something that he didn't feel obligated to buy me, vs something he thought he HAD to get me.
I feel even sorrier for the guys who are with women who EXPECT something great on Valentine's day. My ex boss's wife got real sh**ty (behind his back of course) because *all* he got her was a single rose in a cute red vase with some froofroo stuck in it. I got tired of her whining and said "Hey at least you have him, a lot of women don't have anyone". She just kinda did a yahwhatever at me. Beyotch.

I feel sorry for some of them. Some wives don't know how good they have it- at least their men go out looking for something for them. Some women don't even appreciate that. I don't feel sorry for my husband because he doesn't buy me **** anyway. I just hate Valentine's Day- Period.

I feel more sorry for myself because men are so much harder to buy for. I know my husband gets tired of the box of candy every year but tools don't seem very romantic. ha ha. Sometimes I think they have it easier because there are so many choices for women.

I disagree. I feel that it is a holiday to make men appreciate shopping through their loving spouses.
