The most recent information I have found is for the year 2005. The www.diversitydata.org website has year 2000 information about single-parent households broken down by race for the Memphis, Tennessee area- 6.1% White, 6.3% Asian,11.2% Hispanic & 24.3% Black. They appear to have gotten their information from the Census Bureau.

The U.S. Census Bureau states that Female households without a husband present for year 2000 containing children under 18 is 14.2% or 35,650. For year 2003, there is an estimate of 36,685. The most recent info I was able to find is for the year 2005 with an estimate of 38,335 households, not total children.

Hope this helps or leads you in the right direction.

you can go to the census bureau online. Or you can go to the city and ask for demographics.
