I am doing a BIG project on Mamie Eisenhower for my history class and I was wondering if anyone had any interesting tid bits about her or if anyone could provide any helpful information. I would appreciate your help. Thanks. (My first paper is a biography and I have to "be her" at a fake cocktail party, so ANYTHING about her personality would be awesome to know!)

She decorated the White House for each season of the year (see the first link I've included), she wouldn't tolerate segregation (see the second link), and then there is the famous fudge (third link includes the recipe, but turn off your sound first because the music on this site is loud). Sounds like you've got a great assignment and can really use your imagination. Dwight D. Eisenhower was a military man, so Mamie had the resulting life of moving from place to place as wives do. I would consider my cocktail party conversation be about places I've lived and people I encountered while being posted to different places in the world. According to the bio at the White House, "She once estimated that in 37 years she had unpacked her household at least 27 times." Good luck - hope I've helped.

I know she liked fixing her hair like Princess Leah (2 buns on the sides).

Her ghost is said to appear in the White House kitchen.

She loved making fudge.
