There is a clog in the pipe. I am usually able to unclog with a plunger. Put over garbage disposal and push down slowly. Then pull up fast. The suction will usually clear it after a few tries.

A plumber is the last choice. It will cost about $100. If the plunger doesn't work try Draino or Liquid Plumber.

NEVER put your hand in the disposal! You have a common clog, pour a bottle of Professional Strength Liquid Plumber in the non-disposal side; protect yourself at all times, be patient.

Have you tried resetting it? There is a button on the very bottom. If that doesn't work, try Drain-o. Then, if that doesn't work--call Roto Rooter or a plumber.

You may have a clog, but you may just need a new disposal or it may just to be reset.

It does sound like the non-disposal side is clogged.

Well, you could take it apart yourself, from under the sink and fiddle with it. I have fixed things that way not knowing really what I was doing. But, there is always a risk involved. So, I say weigh the risks. In one hand plumber, in the other fiddle. Either way, good luck!

you need to put a small trash can under the p trap. get a pair of channel lock pliers if you cant undo the nuts with your hand. remove the p trap. all the junk gets stuck there. clean it out and re install it. if the p trap is clear you can rent a snake from a rental store and push it into the drainpipe that goes from the ptrap to the wall or through the floor, depending on your layout.

Well have you cleared the drain of all objects? Yes, this means with your hand. If you have, and you still have this problem, you may need to replace it. Call your plumber. ;)
