If a person is found guilty, why do we continue to pay for their room and board. If the evidence shows that person, and no one else possible did it, whats the purpose for keeping them in jail until their execution. We put them in jail for 20-40 years, so they can wait to die. Why not give them 72 hours, once found guilty, to get their personal affairs in order, and execute them then. I don't condone killing, this is coming from a taxpaying situation.

Sorry to have offended so many people, that was not my intention. And like I said, those who are guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Such as John Wanye Gacy, Jeffrey Dahmer, The 2 snipers who terrorized commuters, and the such.

Do you steal feel the same way?

Life in Prison is a scam because most of the people on death row are also prison laborers.
Here in California, if you open a business that uses prison labor to help make the product, you are give a 10% tax break. An employer using prison labor does not have to pay minimum wage, overtime, benefits or provide workers compensation.
They can pay less than .30 cents an hour if they want to and work a prisoner for 12 hours straight because they do not have to follow labor laws. The product's made my the prisoners are stamped or tagged, Made in the USA. Maybe you have seen some? Prisoners in South Carolina made lingerie for Victoria's Secret.
It's a scam. The tax payers are paying for the prisoners room and board and the prisons are collecting a paycheck by renting them out.

you don't condone killing - but from a monetary standpoint you do not want to support the criminals in prison for life - you can not have it both ways. People like YOU are part of the problem!

If a person has been convicted of a crime punishable by death, and has had an appeal and they are still found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt - kill them! We should not feed, clothe, medicate and educate these animals at all. I DO condone killing them.

You see, government is afraid to offend people like you who do not "condone" killing but really do not want to house these criminals either....elected officials will not push for execution if they want to get reelected-because you do not condone killing. Yet you probably vote against building new prisons....so you tell me what is your answer??

Life in prison is the only alternative to those state that do not execute for capital offenses. While I hate paying for the room, board and medical expenses for those offenders, I hate even more to think that they could be released into the population to offend again.

I agree with aviator that the only way to shorten the time between conviction and execution is the shorten the appeals process. In those states that do execute I think they should consider making the families of the offenders foot the bill for keeping them alive in prison.

As for the argument that it is possible to execute someone who is innocent, sure, it happens. We also keep other offenders in prison for life that may be innocent. It happens, it's wrong, but that is the cold reality of life. I would guess that the number of overturned convictions is relatively small. Otherwise there would be more uproar and we as a society would adjust our laws to compensate for it.

Just from a taxpayer standpoint, I would agree.

If it is conclusive, that the person is guilty, no DNA evidence or witness can contradict the guilty verdict.

No endless appeals: 1-appeal, Governor sign order, 7 days later execute.

From a morality standpoint; lots of folks have trouble with the concept of the death penalty.

The reason it takes so long to execute someone is because of the appeals process. This is a fundamental part of our judicial system. In most cases it might seem like it just lengthens the process, but it is also part of a fair justice system. So either put up with it, or campaign for a more restricted judicial system without all the appeals.

Because outside dna evidence, which is unreliable in certain situations, there is no way to KNOW that someone is guilty unless you caught them in the act. Too many innocent heads have rolled. And in putting someone to death we are denying that person the possibility of true redemption. So many reasons against the death penalty. I can't thing of a single good one for it.

I agree to a point, I feel its a waste of money to house them. I have never met a convict that really was reformed, they claim to of found god...... I say once commited to life, either juice em in the first 3 days, or a cheaper route is the ol reliable bullet to the brain, for those saying thats not right.. wait till you find your loved one murdered, then face his killer, your view will change, and it has nothing to do with god.

Why should we commit the same crime on them and murder someone. Life is a gift and when someone is locked up and has all of their freedom taken away then they can live the life they choose to behind bars. What about those that are falsely accused? 72hrs to prove that there was a mistake and you were innocent. I say you live that experience and let's see if you change your mind. Besides if we put more $$$ into education and programs for the poor and uneducated then perhaps we would have emptier jails cell.

I agree, just another example of wasteful spending by our government. Not only do we have pay for them to stay in prison, but we have to pay their lawyer fees for the yearly appeal process.. quite sickening!

because alot of people can be found innocent of there crimes and you don't want to kill everybody, just the people that kiiled other people. theres people in jail that are doing live because of other crimes like bank robbery, i agree with you looking at it from a taxpayer point of view, but alot of people don't deserive to get knocked off bcause of parking tickets haha
