Go get orange glow hard wood cleaner .... it works great and it will refinish the floor... You could also get polyurithane in the spray can and go over it, but make sure the house is well ventilated...... It stinks!!
Polyurithane is what gives hardwood floor the glass like shine

Well, of course refinishing is the answer long term, but short term orange glo makes a kit that includes a cleaner and sealent with applicator available at home depot or Lowes about $18.
Linens and Things and Bed Bath and Beyond has a product in a small white bottle called floor re finisher that works great.
All these will last for a bit, depending on how much traffic your floor sees.
Good luck!

Holloway house quick floor shine works great and it's pretty fast, murphy's oil soap can leave build up depending on the type of sealant the floor has. I found that out the hard way and my floor looked horrible. Holloway house is fairly cheap too. Good Luck!

If they are real hard wood floors, then the old finish has worn off and they need to be refinished. It can be done by yourself, could also consider having someone come out and give you a free quote on refinishing, especially if it is a rather large area to be done. If you want to do it yourself, here is a website with step by step instructions

Try to find Bruce wood floor cleaner and then a paste wax. It is a lot of work but the results will last and look great.

Rent a U-Sander. Very easy to use (unlike drum sanders). Sand them down real good, then buy a mop made to apply polyeurethane. Apply one coat, let dry. sand. Do this 3 times. You can stain prior to poly if you want.

Re-sand it, then buy a glossy finish to spray on there. Get somebody who knows home improvement. Try these sites:
