Because everyone goes by calendar months. Having a month every 4 weeks is a lunar month. So a pregnancy is actually 9 calendar months and 10 lunar months. Confusing, I know, but most people just go by the calendar.

24 to 28 weeks is the 6th month. when you are a full 28 weeks you will be starting your 7th month. but you wil only be 6 full months pregnant. just like when people say they are 9 months pregnant they aren't not until 40 weeks. cuz yu wouldn't say you were a month pregnant if you were 2 weeks. do you undersand?

1st month- 1 to 4 weeks
2nd month- 5 to 9 weeks
3rd month- 10 to 13 weeks
4th month- 14 to 18 weeks
5th month- 19 to 23 weeks
6th month- 24 to 28 weeks
7th month- 29 to 32 weeks
8th month- 33 to 36 weeks
9th month- 37 to 40 weeks

So 4 weeks = 1 month, 9 weeks = 2 months, 13 weeks = 3 months, 18 weeks = 4 months, 23 weeks = 5 months, 28 weeks = 6 months, 32 weeks = 7 months, 36 weeks = 8 months, and 40 weeks = 9 months pregnant.

Hpefully this has helped.

Keep in mind that the doctors are counting from the 1st day of your last menstrual period (LMP) and that since you didn't ovulate and conceive until approximately 2 weeks after that date, you can really knock those first two weeks off and call it 9 1/2 months.

The real problem is that a pregnancy lasts for 40 weeks (38 in actuality, as described above) but the calendars we use are in months, which are 30-31 days (except February, of course). Therefore, every month is 4 weeks, plus a couple of extra days, and those couple of extra days give you those couple of extra weeks at the end. :)

40 weeks is actually 9 months and 1 week. Each trimester is 13 weeks. Three trimesters are 39 weeks.

Most months are actually about 4.5 weeks, not 4 weeks. There are 52 weeks in a year. If you divide that by 4, you would have 13 months. But there's not 13 months in a year, only 12.

At 26 weeks (end of 2nd trimester) you are 6 months pregnant. Therefore, at 27.5 weeks, you are already 6 months, but not almost 7.

It goes to the very end of the month. So by the time you get to your 9th month its really the beginning of the 10th. A FULL 9 months goes to the very end of the month, not the beginning of it. There is also a 2 week window during conception that is not counted

Traditionally a human pregnancy is considered to last approximately 40 weeks (280 days) from the LMP, or 38 weeks (266 days) from the date of fertilization. The 38 weeks of gestation is 9 lunar months.

It is hard to describe

It all depends on who you're talking to. Some people use a calendar month as a measure: if your LMP (last menstrual period) was on the 5th of January, you're 1 month pregnant on Feb 5th, 2 months on March 5 and so on.

Still others use the 28 day "lunar calendar" - every 4 weeks, you're another month pregnant. In this case, a standard 280 day pregnancy dating from LMP to EDD(estimated date of delivery) is 10 months long! A true lunar month is 29.5 days long.

I hope this helps you, and I agree with you. Why can't they just say you're so and so far along.

All in all it doesn't matter what any one says. You and your Dr know how far along you are. You keep telling them what you know.

Good luck~

It's becaus esociety starts counting after you find out. That first month most woman don't know they are pregnant they are still waiting to miss aperiod so it is 9 months of the world counting with you. Don't fret over it an djust tell them how many weeks along you are an have fun watching there faces as they try to figure up the months in there head.

By the time you reach your tenth month your at your delivery date. So, technically your at your ninth month end. But, what amazed me was the 40 weeks (possibly 42 if you don't go on your due date) out of 52 weeks in a year!

7 days=1 week. 4 weeks=28 days. the only month that has only 28 days is February. all the other months have 30 or 31.... all those extra days add up. it's only 9 months! 40 weeks. it's not that hard.
