Van Halen with Sammy Hagar fronting. It still read Van Halen on the covers of their albums with him so the band name wasn't changed because Eddie & Al were in the band as well. They had some really good songs with Sammy. I wonder why those songs were not that popular?

Most people like VH with Dave. But Fair Warning and Women & children first were not appealing to me. I do like 1984, but I prefer the Sammy Hagar years to have cooler songs.

Anytime you replace an icon like DLR, there will be those that dislike you no matter how good you are. I like both versions, but the Hagar years were too "pop" for many.

I don't know. I like them both. I think Sammy Hagar is great and so is David Lee Roth. They kept going without David Lee Roth but he didn't survive so well on his own. I always thought that they should come back and have them both in concert and let David Lee Roth sing all the old Van Halen stuff and then let Sammy Hagar come back and sing his stuff with and without Van-Halen - including I can't drive 55! I liked their music with him. But I think I liked it better with David Lee Roth because he was just made for the band!

I am not that big of a fan of him because he does not have the spunk Dave had.

Look at it this way... Sammy replacing Dave, would be like someone else replacing James Hetfield of Metallica.

Sure, they may do a good job, but it ISN'T the same. Dave was the voice that introduced us to Van Halen, and James is the voice that introduced us to Metallica (although it has changed drastically over the years).

To me there is two Van Halens. Like you said, the 1 w/ Roth and the other w/ Haggar. I like them both. Its kindda like, to me, there are 3 Pink Floyds. The 1st being Barrets, the second being Waters'sand last but certainly not least Gilmoure's. And I have to disaggree w/ you on the Fair Warning. I like that one best of all. You're right, it didn't do well with most, but I loved it. That being said, I like them both equally. Dot know why others didn't. Oh yeah. And by the way, we don't even have to mention that guy they picked up from The Extreme very briefly. He stunk it up!
