I have a 99 accord. i went to get my oil changed today and they told me that i have a "major oil leak, tranny leaking, and poss main seal leak." what does the last part mean and what kind of money are we talkin for repairs? how long do i have to do the repairs before i cause serious damage to the car? is it possible to have a "major oil leak" and not see any oil leaking? there is no visible oil on the driveway, in the wheel well, under the hood... anywhere that i could see.

You have two seals, on either side of the crank shaft. The accessory side (where you see that belt going around all of those pullies) crank seal is referred to as the "front main seal", the transmission side seal is referred to as the "rear main seal".

If you had a front or rear main seal leak, it would be quite obvious. You would notice an oily spot where you normally park as after the engine has been running for a couple of minutes, it starts dripping. You would also have to top up on oil or you would run your engine dry and seize the engine. My boyfriend's 1993 Nissan 240SX has a front main seal leak and he has to put in a quart every other day, to put it in perspective. There isn't really a "possible" seal leak, you either have one or you don't.

If you had a transmission leak, you would also know it by hard shifting and you would eventually burn up the transmission. Transmissions actually leaking fluid is pretty rare. It's really hard to crack the bellhousing or damage the transmission pan gasket seal.

I would STRONGLY recommend having a friend of yours that knows about cars take a brief look for the sake of safety.

I find it extremely difficult to believe that an unmodified '99 Honda has a front and/or rear main seal problem, AND a transmission problem.

The main seal the are referring to in the rear of your engine. where the crankshaft exit's the block. it is very well true you may not see oil dripping on the floor as it most likely is being caught and held in the lower bell housing. (still not a good thing) the dirty oil that is in there can and most likely will cause your transmission front seals to go bad. (that's even worse).

a nice mechanic at a nice garage would probably do it for $350.00 to maybe $500.00 depending on the severity of the problem.

Your car does not need a rear main seal.It needs a distributor O-ring.The part is available only at a Honda dealer but only costs about 2 dollars. The labor to install it at an independent Honda Specialist should be about $50-$65.Also start using that type of shop even for oil changes,it's well worth a couple dollars extra to have someone under your car who knows it instead of some kid who is flunking PE.
