i am also about to purchase a new computer and i am getting a mac book. i have had a compaq, an ibm and use dell all the time. however, i have also used a mac, and no pc can compare to the reliability of a mac.
if you are into gaming as the first person suggested, then a mac is out of the question. but if you are into making videos, or using video making equipment, then its a mac all the way.

Many people are having this problem choosing between the two. I would suggest a Mac for many reasons. Before I say what they are, I would like to say that I do not own a Mac but have extensive experience using them but I already have a PC and have no need for a new computer right now. Reasons for choosing a Mac - it can run both windows and OS X(voted best operating system recently) BTW, when leopard(new Mac operating system) comes out, the version of Boot Camp already installed in it will be Vista capable. -OS X is a very stable operating system. It has very few viruses and is better than windows. -You seem to be the person who needs power because of your music downloading. Macs are best for entertainment. Reasons not to buy a Mac - they are generally cheaper than PCs(in the low end to middle class range) if you can afford it, get a Mac. Where to Buy you can look on the apple website. there are educational discounts for students such as yourself. I would recommend the MacBook( not MacBook Pro) because it is REALLY small and it can be upgraded to very powerful configurations. It weighs somewhere about 5 pounds and it has a nice 13.3(diagonal) screen.

Well it mostly depends on what you're going to use your computer for. For general usage, I believe an Apple may be more user friendly. In fact, some reviewers of Windows Vista feel that PCs have been trying to copy Apple for a long time in the user friendly department. If you want to use your laptop for gaming (which you shouldn't in the first place because desktops are better suited), a PC might be the better choice. Because most games are designed with the PC in mind (if not from PCs themselves). If you want a Vista laptop, my advice is to wait awhile and see what happens. There's no guarantee that Vista will be compatible with older applications / games.

What are you looking t use it for? Personally i prefer the macs because im into photography and video editing which the macs larger hard drive makes it much better. A common knock on macs is that theyre hard to use but, this is completly wrong. At first thewy can be confusing but after a while youll love them. The PC is better if your looking for a cheaper go with the pc

A PC allows you to do a lot more things on it than a Mac would. Basically all u can do on Mac is the internet listen to music and type.
