Actually, it's because of your kind of thinking that blacks have a higher poverty rate. It's harder for a black person to get a job because many places are racially discriminating. It's been proven that people with "black sounding names" on applications are more often overlooked than applications and resumes from people with "white sounding names" even when the qualifications are equal if not better. It's not fair. Sure, that's not the only reason why so many are on welfare, but I know quite a few white people on welfare as well.
There are quite a few reason's why we celebrate black history, because this is America and there were quite a few African American's that did a lot for us and the United States becoming a much better and stronger country. I feel that they should be appreciated throughout the year rather than just during this one month, as should every other nationality that makes America what it is. Sure, some black people are racist, but not all of them are. You being a black person should understand that they deal with just as much if not more racism than they give out. You should be proud of your race. There is nothing wrong with being proud to be black and maybe one day you can work towards changing the negative thoughts people have towards black into positive ones. But the attitude you are taking towards your own race is not helping at all.

Black History Month was started by a white man named Geralf Ford. The black organizations such as the NAACP were started by whites as a way to help blacks.
At the time it seemed like a good idea but now more people are saying it did more harm, it really depends who you ask.

I am white but educated enough to know that without black people america would've taken decades if not centuries longer to become the country that it is. If it wasn't for the sacrifices and bone breaking labor that they gave to the first americans industry would've ground to a halt.
I think that you are confusing being poor with being black. If you take two people of the same economis background they will likely be the same regardless of color. Extrapolate that to several generations unable to dig out of poverty and you do get dependancy on welfare and other social programs.
The real question here is why we are allowing people to pass people over for opportunities based on skin color and fanancial status.
You don't need to be proud of your "color", its something genetic and not chosen. However you could choose to help others in your race by raising them up, encouraging race equality and stop being racist yourself. There is a medical term for a psychiatric disorder in which you are racist against your own race.

It's all in an effort to make black people feel welcome after 250 years of slavery and 100 years of discrimination. Obviously there are some black people who deserve their own holiday or day of reverence, but an entire month? There are more Latinos than blacks in America now. Wheres Latino history month? It all came from white people jerking off their own humanitarian penis at the expense of black people. February is the month we study black people and how white people pretend they like black people now. It all makes me a bit sick, to tell the truth.

First of all I'm white. I dont think all blacks act that way. But I have to agree that they do descriminate the most. I live in the south in a town that is mostly black.......I'm the one who gets descrimated against. I think the media is to blame. They try to make it look like a white problem ( michael Richardson)
