The internet cannot be harmful... but it's use, and interpretaion can be.

Many people accept at face value, what they find on the web... it is often untrue or inaccurate.

The internet is a source of many opinions and interests .. some good, some bad, some boring, some hilarious...

... it's a lot like life .. but it can all be experienced without leaving your home .. this is great, so far as convenience goes; but bad in respect of genuine experience.

Categorising the internet as "harmful" is the same as claiming that a book is dangerous ... it is up to the individual to make an informed choice as to whether he/she should read that book; and whether he/she should believe everything written in it.

The internet offers choice, and that's something we should all have!!

Look at the good things which the internet affords us - free speech in countries with oppressive regimes, for example.

Good and bad ... it is only harmful is used incorrectly.

It can not only give viruses to computers maybe shutting down complete servers for schools or hopsitals. It can also change people opinions on things and I think that is the most harmful way the internet can be. It also gives people the change to hide from giving others nasty remarks. Most of the time it can be full of a bunch of rubbish that no one cares for. An exmaple that it may make kids think they are fat like newspapers or magazines shwoing celebrities who are really thin can give kids and others the incentive to go aneroxic and then thinkt hey can become just like the celebrities. It can start arguments with others because things dont get across right. Stalkers abusive language. Anything that can ahrm feelings not just give viruses.

The internet has all sorts of information, including websites set up by people who believe things which are plainly not true. Even leaving out sites which promote racism, sexism, and conspiracy theories, there are sites which claim that the Earth is flat, or that Neil Armstrong's walk on the moon was a hoax made on a soundstage in Hollywood.

So the internet can be harmful if people don't filter what they see to make certain that what they are reading is the truth.

Experts in a Pew Research report debate whether the Internet of things will improve lives and business or create security and privacy issues.
The Internet of things will grow rapidly over the next 10-plus years, holding out more than its share of promises and hope for a future that is more efficient, social, healthy and happy, as well as fear and concern around such issues as security, privacy and the decline of human interaction, according to a report by the Pew Research Center.

The center's Internet Project and Elon University, in recognition of the 25th anniversary of the Internet, is releasing a series of eight reports that collect insights and opinions on the future of technology from a range of experts. A previous report touched on the fast adoption of the Internet and its role in the global social fabric. The latest study, which focuses on the Internet of things (IoT) and what it will look like by 2025, included responses from 1,600 people.

Most said they expect the IoT will dramatically change technology and how people relate to it, and that the change will be for the better. Technology will become more important to people's lives as it becomes less visible, something akin to electricity, according to the report's authors. Many respondents said the positive impacts will be significant.

"The net effect will be to reduce waste everywhere: in physical flows and logistics, in the movement of people and goods; in logical flows and logistics, in the movement of ideas and information; decisions will be made faster and better, based on more accurate information; prior errors in assumption and planning will be winkled out more effectively," said JP Rangaswami, chief scientist for Salesforce.com. - See more at: http://www.eweek.com/networking/internet-of-things-is-coming-but-is-that-good-or-bad.html#sthash.HQGz5Cq3.dpuf
