You can usually get a better deal online, however, sometimes places like Best Buy can have sales or rebates on things that can make it very price competitive with online retailers.

If you do get a computer online, make sure you factor in the shipping costs.

I got a great deal from Dell. The only thing was it quit working only a few weeks after I got it and the thing with Dell is that you have to call customer service and it takes forever to actually get to speak with someone. He had me take it all apart to try and find the problem. What ended up happening was he figured out that it was this internal battery thing so he sent the part and a guy to fix it. So.. did it get messed up in the shipping? malfunctioning part? I think just as long as you have the warranty you are fine.
Good Luck!

I purchased online but that's because my son is a computer-literate engineer and on-call for help.

If you have little or no experience with computers, you might be better off watching the ads - especially Sunday morning when Office Max, Office Depot, Best Buy, CompUSA compete with each other. They also have techs on the premises to help you.

definelety online. if you are nervous, then go with a big brand (i wouldn't chose dell, crappy tec support) such as Gateway, Compaq, an HP.
