more than one laundry hookup. If I were to build my own house I would have a laundry that had at least 2 washers and 2 dryers. Laundry could be done in half of the time.

Thanks for the "smart" answers. Its a serious question for home owners who do laundry in their own home and not in a laundromat. I have 4 kids and a husband laundromats are out of the question. Buying a second washer/dryer is much more cost effective.

I can't install a second washer/dryer in my house. My present house is too small.

Granted this idea would not make sense for single ppl, only families

I have a large capacity front loader. Still means I do 20 loads/week

To the one who's mom had four kids and did fine with one washer. Did she work a full time job and run a full time business on the side?

I think a lot of home builders are just being cost effective and figuring that most people would be okay with just one washer & dryer and therefore one hook up. But I'm with you-laundry in half the time would be great! Have you ever watched those shows about the Duggin family (they have 16kids or something) I think they have three washers and three dryers so it's possible to add those things.

That would be great for people with families. If you build your own home or have it specifically contracted, theyll do whatever you want. Most of the time when homes are being built, the builders never know who will be moving in. It would be kinda dumb for me to have two washers now because Im by myself and only do laundry when I have enough for a full load anyway.

Buy more clothes so you do not run out as quickly. I am not a homeowner...I live in an apartment and hate trying to get to a chance to use the washer. Going to the laundromat also sucks.

Remember the JonBenet case ?
They had a washer/dryer on the second floor by the kids rooms and another set on the third floor in the master bedroom.

I always thought that was such a smart idea.

The only logical reason I can think of to install more than one hook up is to allow the owner flexibility in installation- utility room, basement, or upstairs closet.

Obviously, there is a cost involved in the plumbing, fixtures, and drain which limits how many hook-ups they will install.

As for owning more than one machine- most of us make do nicely with one machine, even with 4 kids. If you really wanted 2 machines, all you'd have to do is to use a splitter on the hose connections and plugs.

They don't want you to start your own business as laundromat services- hahaha. Anyhoo... if you build your house I don't see why not they wouldn't put more hookups. Granted the average family uses one set of hookup per household. Or it could be the environementalists restriction, cuz they're worried about crap like water consumption, and/ or chemicals being safe for their stupid environement. Whatever.

I'd like to have one large washer and dryer in the small room or basement.
