I like it a lot. I think it has a sort of old-fashioned charm to it. It's not too popular, either, so he wouldn't be forced to go by his full name in school (which always bothered me growing up).
As far as nicknames go... the first time I ever heard the name it was over the phone, and I thought they said "Goliath." Elias, Goliath... maybe it's a stretch. I doubt school-aged kids would come up with that. I say it's a wonderful name. Go for it!

I think it is great name, in fact the boy that I am pregnant with right now will have the name Elias Owen.
I did go to school with an Elias, he went by the name Eli and was very nice.

I like it. I knew a guy named Elias. He was hispanic. I didn't know him all that well, but I did really like his name and he was really cute. I thought his name was Elliot at first, which is easy to make fun of, but then I heard him pronounce it, and it sounds a lot better. He puts emphasis on the "i". I like it. I think it's a good name.

Elias is a strong name and means 'courage.' I have a friend whose counseling agency is named Elias because of that and I have always liked it. My best friend in another state named her DS that and calls him Eli. They loved Eli, but not Elijah and I think it's a great name!

Elias is another word for GOD in the bible. You can read this in Matthew chapter 27 verses 46 & 47

I personally love that name and almost named my last son Elias. He just didn't look like an Eli to me.

My cousin and his wife named their son Elias. They were going to call him Eli, which I think is cute, but ended up calling him Elias, which I think sounds kind of weird.

Elias was a name of a priest in the Bible. (Elijah)
I have always liked Bible-based names for children - our son's name is Samuel Micah, and he has truly been a blessing to us!

I like it. I'm not well-versed in Christianity, but it sounds Biblical or Torah-ical. It sounds like a strong and intellectual person.

It's okay, personally I like Elijah better but that's just me. You can still call him Eli for short. Which I find adorable.
