No, I don't think they're analogous at all. Firstly because not all men are into porn and not all women are into the soaps.

But, okay, are those guys who do enjoy porn anything like those women who enjoy soap operas? Guys don't generally follow storylines, care about characters, or really express their emotions much when watching pornography. Guys watch pornography to masturbate, for something erotic to do with another person, and sometimes just for a laugh. Women who watch porn watch it for the same reasons.

Women watch soap operas because they're into the trashy drama. Like porn, it's an indulgence, but so is chocolate and football. Women - and I'm not a woman, so someone can correct me - seem to enjoy soaps either for something to talk about with other soap fans, sometimes for emotional catharsis, and sometimes just for a laugh. But guys who watch soaps watch them for the same reasons. I briefly followed the Days of Our Lives.

I don't think the two exactly compare . . .
