To be honest with you Nelia I have been to both beaches and I believe Siesta Key Beach near Sarasota,FL is far superior then Cocoa beach which is an hour from Orlando. The reason being that Siesta has pure white cleaner sand like sugar and I'm not kidding, as opposed to Cocoa Beach which is more tan/brown sand and it has more stones, pebbles.

See for your pleasure:

Depends on what you are looking for. Siesta Key beach is great, but the wave action is small (Gulf of Mexico). A lot of people.
Cocoa Beach is great too, and as someone mentioned above, the sand quality is not as great. However, there are miles and miles of beach to roam, and not the crowded. However, the wave action is better, being on the Atlantic side.
Also, Gulf water is warmer and calmer, and Cocoa Beach is surf oriented. You might go a little further north to Cape Canaveral National Beach Park (or something like that) which is inside a Nature Preserve, and the beaches are not that crowded at all.
Either way, you win!

It depends on your taste. I prefer Siesta Key. Cocoa Beach is great for surfers or those who love to boogie board. Since it is on the Atlantic Coast though, it can get murky and dirty real quick from the cruise ships that dock there and any storms which churn up the water. Siesta Key is located on the gulf side and the water is always a turqiouse blue.
Cocoa is great for older kids - or teenagers. They have a huge arcade right on the pier and beach rentals like boogie boards, volleyballs, etc...
It is also located right next to the Nation's largest surf shop - Ron Johns. Everything from swimsuits to sunscreen can be found here - even tropical home decor.

Siesta Key has been listed as Travel Channel's #2 Florida Beach! It is popular and well known for its pure white sand - the purest you will find in the US. The sand is so soft - it feels like baby powder. There are no big waves here, so this beach is ideal for young children or folks who want more of a tropical feel. Siesta Key also has a terrific Cabana area where they sell a huge variety of all kinds of foods. Showers are everywhere and they have a cute little surf shop and ice cream shop as well. You can also play sand volleyball here.

So again, it just depends on your taste. If you want big waves, Cocoa is for you. If you want laid back tropical - then Siesta Key is ideal.

Go to Siesta Key, the west coast beaches are nicer. If you decide to go east, drive about 15-20 miles south of cocoa to melbourne beach/ indiatlantic, the beaches are nicer and less crowded.

I have never been to Siesta beach but cocoa beach is very nice. Nothing going on. Great if you want to relax on a beautiful quiet beach.

Siesta Key is one of the most beautiful beaches around and Sarasota is a fun place to visit with lots of things to do besides the beaches.
