I sleep in my basement since there are no windows. Sunlight still managed to sneak past the heaviest drapes I could find. Wear a black "night mask" if light is keeping you awake. Stick to a strict sleep schedule: Go to bed at the same time, and get up at the same time everyday of the week. Even on the days that you do not work. Try to get at least 7 (preferably more) hours of sleep. Do something relaxing right before bedtime; anything that will help you unwind from a long nights work. Different things work for different people. Try a bunch to see what works for you.

my husband use to work for 10 years contenental shift and it was hard until he found a better way to deal with it
1st week 7am-3pm
2nd week 3pm-11pm
3rd week 11pm-7am
and then start all over again
for him the 11pm-7am shift was the hardest, he found that sleeping in a dark room really helps, beacuse people dont sleep when they come right home from work at a normal hour
he suggest to treat the day like a normal work day
ie: supper at 7am breakfast at 11pm,
doing what he normally would do after work
ie: watch a movie, play guitar, go to the mall,
all other friends are at work so there is no one to visit, he found bike riding helped a lot or walking around the neighbourhood, we also got a pet to keep both of us company during the times are work schedule did not allow time together,

Sleep during the day and work at night. We cope by doing the opposite of the norm for others.

It's not easy really. I usually work from about 8 p.m. until about 4 a.m. The only places open during those later hours are Waffle House and Wal-mart. It gets depressing at times but I picked up a hobby (playing guitar) and started reading alot.

sleep as soon as you get home in the morning, cuz if you play around, you're not going to sleep until later and that is NOT GOOD! so unless you have something major to do in the morning, GO TO SLEEP. ^__^ also, if you wake up around lets say 4, do the dinner stuff and eat and then take a nap for 2-3 hours before, it helps alot with energy!
good luck.
