I have to question the veracity and the competence of your new eye doctor. Virtually every eye doctor I have seen has told me that contact lenses don't cause any damage to your eyes 99% of the time or better as long as you take them out every night and soak them in that Multi-PLUS solution for at least six hours. It's the people who get those extended wear lenses and wear them for days or weeks on end that are taking a big risk according to the opticians I've talked to. As long as you don't wear them overnight and get your eyes checked at a minimum of once every two years (every year is better), you're fine. If there's a problem, the docs will tell you.

There may be some missing information here. What kind of contacts do you wear? Some are safe to sleep in. Some are not. All contacts are not the same. Generally speaking, however, contacts are safe. People have been wearing them successfully and regularly for over two decades now. If your doctor is suggesting that they all are unsafe, then you need to get a second opinion. But listen to what he is saying and ask questions. He may just be talking about YOUR eyes with THOSE contacts under YOUR specific situation. Ask for more information.

I've been wearing contacts since the 6th grade and I'm a junior in college now...my eyes are fine. Why would these doctors or specialists allow people to wear contacts for a long period of time if it isn't safe for them? It is said that if you take good care of your lenses (like clean and store them properly!!!) and you don't sleep with them, you'll be fine. I actually don't abuse wearing contact lenses so much and wear glasses more.

Yes the contacts should not cause a problem ,if u take proper care.
Its true you should not wear them while sleeping and thoroughly clean them with the lens cleaner liquidevery time you use.never ever wash them with water and wear sunglasses if you are out in a dusty area.If u keep them for long without using them and not changing their solution you might get an infection.
