The US Secret Service Uniformed division is assigned to guard the white house, vice presidents residence, etc. (As opposed to the special agents who are the actual bodyguards/counterfeit investigators) Is their jurisdiction just their post, Washington DC, or the whole US?

1. no, yes, maybe. It will still take a long time, no matter how well trained as a military sniper, to get on. The mission is completely different. Not just a skill set or talent is needed. It is a mindset they look for. 2. Yep Sam Houston has a great program. Problem with CJ is that many think it is an meditate entry or at least a plus when becoming a cop.Other than fulfilling an educational requirement it is not anything special. It is supposed to be a social science but when taught at most community colleges (where the huge bulk of kids go) it is not a thinking person's course of study. To make it through the testing, both written and oral, for any major LE job you need those excellent critical thinking, logic, reading and comprehension skills. All you comprehend with most cj courses of study is how to memorize and regurgitate. No cop needs to know., or should really care except as trivia, how big a cell must be or much about prison population density. What they need to know is how to figure what a bad guy might do in the future after looking at his past. That is thinking logically. They need to be able to understand and synthesize, not vomit up facts and figures. 3. no, everyone who is getting that far in the process, except for less then 0.1% who have minor misdos or quasi criminal offenses in background, will have no criminal record of any sort.

They are Federal Officers and as such have the authority to operate anywhere in the US. That doesn't mean that they have jurisdiction over local officials, except for cases clearly defined for Secret Service, such as counterfiting.

Apparently the entire U.S. and possibly abroad. Recently an 84 your old man had a visit from the SS in Mass. They went to his home and questioned him about a letter he wrote to his newspaper which had it published in the paper about Iraq hanging the wrong man.

They thought he was threatning the life of G. W. B.

Also, remember its your tax dollars that paid for that little trip and waste of human resources to visit an 84 your old right that was practicing his bill of rights. He never even mentioned the presidents name.
