I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan, for those of you arts people who don't know, they are an professional American football team in the NFL. We just hired a new head coach named Wade Phillips and I was doing some research on him and I found out his daughter is a burlesque dancers, Tracy Phillips. First what is burlesque? Is it 1920s stripping? And is she a well know dancer? I hope I don’t offend anybody thinking it is like stripping. I'm sorry I'm not in to arts. Thought I'm learning to like art by taking a film and motion picture class in college. I now enjoying film and learning of actors from the 30s 40s and 50s.

Hi, REV

Originally, burlesque featured shows that included comic sketches, often lampooning the social attitudes of the upper classes, alternating with dance routines. It developed alongside vaudeville and ran on competing circuits. new generation nostalgic for the spectacle and perceived glamour of the old times determined to bring burlesque back. This revival was pioneered independently in the mid 1990s by Ami Goodheart’s “Dutch Weismanns’ Follies” revue in New York and Michelle Carr’s “The Velvet Hammer Burlesque” troupe in Los Angeles. In addition, and throughout the country, many individual performers were incorporating aspects of burlesque in their acts.As it turnes out, it is not stripping, but the costumes can be minimal: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burlesque

Many professional football players find ballet training helpful to their skill. So maybe it is really good that you suddenly got interesed in dancing.

As usual, Snowflake has come in with a great answer. And if you're a Cowboys fan, keep in mind who won last season's "Dancing With the Stars." This is the first time I've seen a Cowboys fan (in the answers) call Emmit Smith gay!

Good for you! Knowledge expands your horizons.
