This is not my first time driving across the country, but before my car only had 30,000 miles on it now it is up in the 95,000 miles. It is running fine and I always keep up with the routine mantainence. Is there anything specific that I should have checked or looked over before I make my treck from california to florida?

If you've had the routine maintenance done you are probably okay. Do check all the fluids, including transmission fluid. If you are close to an oil change, have that done.

Have a hard look at your tires. Are they in in good shape, no sidewall cracks? Pressure where it belongs? (Generally 28 to 32 psi.) How about the tread? If they are well worn to where you are seeing the wear bars, it may be time to get some new ones on before you take off. This time of the year carry your emergency kit because you are going through some possible snow country.

Don't drive when your tired. Make sure you have your registration and insurance card, and they are both up to date. Enjoy, and say hi to Mickey for me when you get to Disney world.

You SHOULD ALWAYS Start with your Tires. On a long trip like yours; your tires should be NEAR NEW; Including your spare! Next on your list should be all fluid levels. The best way to have all your fluid levels Checked is to go to a Fast Oil change Place like Jiffy Lube and tell them you want your oil changed; and while they're at it to check ALL the other fluid Levels. Then GLADLY Pay extra for whatever they tell you that you need. Also tell them you want all the fan belts checked out. Last but not lease; take out a AAA tow insurance contract ; so that if you do have a problem on the highway; you won't have to pay an outrageous towing fee. And MOST IMPORTANT; bring along a FULLY CHARGED Cell phone in case you do have a Problem.

Depending on what kind of car it is, meaning if it has a timing belt or chain. That would be the first thing to replace. Normally you would replace that at 100,000 miles. Next, I would make sure and get everything lubed in the steering and wheels. Check the drive belt and your hoses for any cracks or deformities. Other than that everything should be fine.

I would take it in, have the tires rotated and checked. Check all the fluids etc and belts and just have them run a diagnostic on it to-its a lot of miles. I did this before a 2 week driving vacation on my Xterra and it ran about 60.00 or so- worth it for peace of mind. We still had a tire replaced in route but that was it-

In addition to your fluids (oil, coolant) Make sure you also have your brakes and belts checked. Having certain belts go on you could cause a lot of time and money lost.

It is also wise to check the treads on your tires to see if you need them rotated or replaced.

Mostly your belts, hoses, fluids, and tires. Virtually, everything on the drivetrain should be checked. These will be your car's weak points.
