I honestly don't know. Look at the most talked about celebrities- Paris Hilton, the Olsen twins, Nicole Richie. They're famous for being drunken tramps who embarrass themselves on a daily (or nightly) basis. Look at MySpace-millions of self-deluded teenagers who think they're models or better than others. People these days are selfish, they honestly don't consider the consequences and only care about themselves. Why are so many bratty kids running around? Because of self-centered parents.

You just have to remember to be nice to the nice people-the poor homeless man, the nerdy guy at school, the shy elderly man at church, and take absolutely no crap from the mean, stuck-up, or angry people that want to dominate everything around them.

Don't let anybody push you around.

The reasons I think, lie in youth. I think we all have an innocent trust when we're young, then as we grow and people hurt us, emotionally and physically, we build walls around ourselves and those walls translate into an outward hostility. It's sad, but it's a fact of life. If people are mean, just be sorry for them, they're probably hurting inside.

Mostly, people who are the "walking wounded" in the battle of life, feel the world is cold. The rest of us see it as an ongoing challenge and something to be enjoyed.

In industrialized nations, we depend much less on the support of family and neighbors that we used to. This is because government run social programs have replaced family and neighbors as our safety net.

For instance, if you lose your job, instead of relying on the charity of your neighbors, you can collect unemployment. If you get thrown out of your home, you can go to a shelter. If you need to borrow money, you can go to a bank or a Money Tree instead of asking friends or family.
