Hi,
My opinion is brestfeed her as much as the baby needs and u can.
Breast milk is the best for a baby than any other. Your ltl fellow is still 4 1/2mnt and you can go with only the breast milk till 6 mnts, if its enough for baby.
As you said, 2 times a day is more than enough for this age. If you are breast feeding the baby in the night, its not necessary to feed him in the night. But if your baby likes to eat at that time do so. But better to wait for the 3rd meal till the baby reach 6 mnts.
Take care,

Usually you wait until six months becasue the increase in allergies. You can feed whatever times you want. I would't feed a new food right before bed time just in case she has a reaction to it. My doctor told me to start once a day for a few days or so then twice a day for a few days or a week and then within the months I can feed her regular meals, breakfast lunch and dinner. If she eats it she is probably hungry so it most likey isn't too much. You do want her to rely more on the formula though becasue this is thier main source of nutrition. It has more of the nutrients that the need, especially at four months. My honest opinion, I would probably hold off on three times a day until she is a little bit older so that she getting the nourishment from the breastmilk or formula. I would check with your doctor and see what he or she thinks though. He/she may think that three meals is fine.

4 1/2 months is quite young to be eating solids, especially 3 times a day. Why is she getting baby food and not the recommended cereal first? And why only sweet potatoes if she must eat solids at all? Here is a great site that show's the recommendations for all your childs feeding needs:

If you eat three times a day, why would you think a baby should eat any less? I find it hard to believe a child could go from 8pm at night until noon the next day. She should at least be getting breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and at 4 1/2 months old still eating even more times than that (up to 5 full times per day).

If she's eating each time, then it's probably fine. A baby won't eat if it's not hungry. Overeating is a learned behavior.

If she wants food, give it to her. As long as she is getting the right amount of breastmilk, the other food shouldn't interfere. If she is drinking less milk, cut back on the real food.
