The capacity to love

2007-02-08 05:02:13 · answer #1 · answered by Bobby Cretin 2 · 0 0

Love. For example, when a baby is born it has absolutely nothing to offer the world. A baby is completely dependent on his/her parents to feed him/her, clean him/her up, and keep him/her safe. When you see your newborn child, you see pure helplessness... and yet there's this illogical substance within you that stirs that you'd lay down your life for this helpless little creature.

On the other hand maybe fear is the runner up, if not of equal intensity as love. For example, you probably won't be as motivated to do well in your breadwinning career so you could buy your wife diamonds... probably what would make you do it is rather the fear of having to say "i'm sorry, honey, but i can't afford that" when your teenage daughter so badly wants to go to Harvard but didn't quite qualify for the scholarship.

Kind of a pat answer... but... LOVE.

Whatever kind of love it is, be it romantic, maternal, paternal, sisterly, brotherly (etc, ad nauseum) love is the ONE thing that makes us willing to attempt to understand another's perspective. It is the antithesis of fear. It builds trust, promotes empathy, and reduces hate to dust. It is the foundation of honesty, accountability and all those other virtues we like to find in our friends and companions.

So... Love is the 'pat' answer... but it is also the widest, deepest, most expressive emotion out there. All other emotions are defined by it's terms.

I really don't like to admit it, but Hate is the strongest emotion. Hate has produced more change than Love ever has, and even though both are possibly as strong, Hate gets the edge because it is much easier to find and generate.

Love without any doubt

When in love you will be doing things that you have never done before, you will do sacrifices and smiling when doing it, it transforms you

This is the greatest emotion as it uspsets you, you are overflowed with Happyness

I don't know if this is considered an emotion, but the ability to put yourself in someone else's shoes is an amazing thing that only humans can do.

Mother's love towards her child is the holiest thing on earth next only to God's love.

It would have to be fear. As a society and as an individual. Ask yourself how many times fear as stopped you from trying something new, making a change in your life, and be honest.

Matt, that's empathy

As for your question, Love is the strongest emotion. More has been done out of love for our children, spouses and God then anything else.
