The same question is being asked in Canada.......Sharia law NOT part of a democratic society.....it shouldn't be part of any society.
The National Association of Women and the Law, the Canadian Council of Muslim Women, and the National Organization of Immigrant and Visible Minority Women of Canada argued that under Shariah law, men and women are not treated equally.
They argued that women fare far worse in divorce, child custody and inheritance matters under Shariah law. For instance, a woman can only inherit half as much as a man can. If a divorced woman remarries, custody of the children from her previous marriage may revert to the children's father.

Sharia law derives from the teachings of the Koran and from Sunna (the practise of the prophet Mohammed).
The word sharia means "the path to a watering hole". It denotes an Islamic way of life that is more than a system of criminal justice. Sharia is a religious code for living, in the same way that the Bible offers a moral system for Christians.
The difference being that Sharias law is still a barbaric law...for example...
On Tuesday August 20, 2002 an Islamic court in Nigeria upheld a sentence of death by stoning for a woman accused of adultery. The case is the latest in a series of sentences passed under sharia law.
Then there are the Hadd offences...Hadd offences carry specific penalties, set by the Koran and by the prophet Mohammed. These include unlawful sexual intercourse (outside marriage); false accusation of unlawful intercourse; the drinking of alcohol; theft; and highway robbery. Sexual offences carry a penalty of stoning to death or flogging while theft is punished with cutting off a hand.
This is just part of what Sharia Law is about....just check it out for yourselves.
Just ask yourself this simple question....Is this the sort of barbaric, backwards law that should be allowed to exist in a civil society such as the UK.

I don't think it would ever happen and the only way it would happen in the future is if Muslims formed the overall majority - and even then i doubt the majority of muslims support it. The law has to be a reflection of the people it serves.
As for Civil war, it's not an impossibility if that where to happen, but its more fantasy then reality.

As a body of normative laws and regulations, sharia (syariah) encompasses society and societal relations as a whole. It's about trying to create the circumstances where justice can prevail and where oppression and injustice can be avoided and eradicated.
Syariah, is therefore greater and more complex than hudud laws. There is such a thing as a syariah of economic, for economic Justice for humanity as a whole. Addressing these issues means having to understand the mechanics of global economics and finance, so that we can understand how economic oppression and exploitation comes about, and what we can do to combat the destructive and anti-social effects of rampant globalisation.
Why can't we broaden our understanding of syariah in that direction? Why is there such an obsession with punishing people?

The BBC news this week indicated that a lot of young Muslims rather than older ones are in favour of a Sharia law society for themselves wherever they live i.e. they would reside in a country but not be subject to its laws only their own (I assume). This is mini-anarchy. I suggest this genuinely that perhaps they should be found a country large enough for themselves then they can all live there happily, and the rest of the world can do its own thing??

the perception is that folk ought to voluntarily use Sharia regulation in circumstances the position it does not conflict with the prevailing legal structure of the united kingdom. This has quite been finished for years for quite a number of religions---non secular regulation should be utilized voluntarily the position it does not conflict with the actual regulation of the land. How and why ought to you opt on to steer away from this? you may not ward off it with out decreasing freedom.

I am not a Muslim but I think UK and the world should accept
Sharia Law.
Just as soon as they accept our laws in their countries and allow us to open bars, gentlemen's clubs, and pigs to go wild in their places of worship.
The 700 Club and have offices in Iran with the Iranian Army protecting them.
Respect is a two street something you can't find in the Qran by they way they are acting.

No, because anyone listening to their ipod or flying a Kite would get their head chopped off. Besides in Britain we don't have large Buddhist statues that Sharia loving Muslims can blow up when they are feeling a bit down.

This whole thing is ridiculous!
This helpes answer my question as to whether Islam seeks to convert or not- of course they do!
This is subversive and wrong.
No more wrong than the Xians taking over the Celtic countryside and destroying the pagan ways, of course...
but now the Xians incorporated the old ways in disguise.
This is a wholly different and unpracitcal approach.
By now, the world will not be stupid enough to convert to such a destructive force.
Hopefully, they will not be stupid enough to allow the Islamic factions to seep into society in such insipid fashion.
There are ways to exile someone under Islamic law in one's religious community, without ever touching the legal hegemonic structures.
Otherwise, get out.
Oh, better yet, just buy up a whole county in a country, and secede.
Money talks better than anything I know.
But don't touch me or mine.
